Everyone has an “About Us” page right?
This is the blog of Jason Wagner. Eventually this will expand and be more imaginative but for now just assume that I will be discussing issues regarding Real Estate Marketing, Architecture, Design, Photography, Activities in and around St. Louis, Parenting, and Beer. Among my many varied interests, I love indie and downtempo music, skateboarding, biking, snowboarding, waterskiing, jetskiing/waverunners, and art. I would love to try wakeboarding so if you have a ski boat and a board I am open to invitations. I was born in the inner suburbs south of KC and moved to a rural area even further south later in my adolescence which I think has allowed me to be introspective when needed but also see the details and things typically unnoticed in our environment. My training in architecture has furthered this yearning to understand our built environment and the “daily ritual” that is our lives. My life’s work has been to continue my learning about architecture, design and human nature, attempting to figure out not what people want when it comes to their surroundings, but what they need, all the while trying to balance with my personal life being a good father and husband. I am currently working to understand more about BIM, Revit, and Facility Management. I believe that only by having more information available about our existing buildings, can we begin to understand the architecture that we must build for our future generations.
Why Threefourteen?
The number 314 has been coming up in my life for a while now. I first began to notice it in College where my dorm room was 314. Then later I moved off campus and lived at 314 N. 11th St. I have always been fascinated by Pi and loved the book Contact by Carl Sagan. In the book there was supposedly instructions hidden in the formula for Pi. More about Pi here. While in college my parents address was changed from a rural route address to one with a street name and house number for 911 purposes. Our new house number was 31407. After college I moved to St. Louis where the area code is 314 for the immediate metro area. More recently my wife and I had a daughter in 2007 who was born on March 14th or 3/14. (more numerology further down…)
As you can see the number has followed me all my life. I have taken the St. Louis portion to heart and have been focused on things in and around the city of St. Louis. I currently reside in the city with my wife Diane and our 3 chidren. I would love to promote all things St. Louis to help others understand how great a city this is. I am concerned yet hopeful for our great city. Its been dwelling in the past, but has a bright future. Perfectly situated in the middle of the country, St. Louis is a short inexpensive flight to almost anywhere in the US. It has great housing stock and a strong sense of civic pride. Many have moved to outlying suburbs which has been the primary contributor to the decline of this once great city. Most of these areas have a 636 area code. It is my hope as people realize that having a vibrant inner core is essential to the whole area that these people will migrate back in and help promote living in the city, and encourage relocation from other parts of the country and world to St. Louis.
Thanks to all of you who have made it this far. I look forward to your input and comments as I blog about my favorite subjects.
Update (o2/05/09): Remembered- our house number is a weird one too. When I moved to St. Louis I lived at 4626 Westminister. When I got married I knew we found the right house when I learned of its house number… also 4626. Let me tell you. Confuses the hell out of the post office and anyone else who tracks address info.
Update (10/26/09): One thing I should mention is that my surroundings greatly affect my mood and outlook. To this end, things like smells, sounds, and visual cues affect how I perceive the world around me. I have created Pandora stations depending upon what you are into, I have very eclectic music tastes in general, but I have times when I like a particualr type of music and none other. For instance- fall rains and 60 degrees almost always call for Starbucks and Jazz. If not that, then some downtempo music. Lights off, windows open- thats how I roll. If you want to check it out- See my Pandora Stations for Jazz, Downtempo, Grunge/90′s Alternative, and Artist stations du jor.
